With an estimated $519bn of projects planned or underway, Egypt is Africa’s biggest projects market, and the need to reduce the carbon footprint of projects is very important. COP 27, hosted by Egypt in 2022, will emphasize the urgency of action required to address:

• The gaps in ambition across mitigation, adaptation, loss, and damage, and finance

• Collaboration between public and private sectors to work together on lowering the commitment and action gap

• Net-zero carbon emissions and expansion of renewable capacity to cover 42% of the country’s energy needs by 2030

• Decarbonisation of select downstream facilities in Egypt led by a coalition of energy transition leaders.
